Wisconsin is the greatest place in the country to live. We have four clearly defined seasons, each very distinctive in what they have to offer. However, this is the time of year in which it changes to a cooler period of weather. Look at all the pretty snow. Aren't you people in the south just green with envy?
Cheryl, in the previous post, alluded to my conference, Through the Eyes of a Child, sponsored by University of Wisconsin Extension. The conference satisfies continuing education requirements for attorneys, judges, and social workers. This two day conference featured keynote speaker Ben Garber, PhD. He does a lot of work with children and families, including adoption. He spoke on attachment in the general session and the breakout smaller sessions. I attended those on purpose because of Hudson. Main things I learned, believe me there was a lot of info, was RAD (Reactive attachment disorder) is very rare. Most of the rest of the information reinforced what Cheryl and I had already learned about attachment. I spoke with Mr. Garber afterward a sessions and picked up one of his books. I did ask him a question about Hudson's behavior, whether his attempting to pull one of his sisters off was an attachment issue. He said it is probably sibling rivalry. (Which is one of the possibilities we had thought of).
Hudson did probably have a flashback in the hotel room at the Dells. As I was packing things up so Cheryl did not have be herself (as I was going to the conference), he began to cry inconsolably. It took about 15-20 minutes to calm him down. We think he remembered back to China and his first time in the hotel room with us. He needed reassurance that he nothing bad is going to happen and he is staying with us. Then, he was good. I write this, not to embarrass him someday, but to share our struggles and joys.
Everyone is good here, except Hudson has a cold. He really has not been sick since he joined our family. Poor little guy, his eating is off and at lunch he only ate about 1/2 of his usual and finally just sat there with a tired looking gaze. Bedtime.
