or so goes the tune to a popular '60's tv show. But that is not quite right. We did have lights, boat and a motorcar while at Cisco's Pinepoint Resort on the Chippewa Flowage. But we did not have internet, good cellphone connection or a land line phone. We did have a small 3 bedroom cabin for 6 adults and 4 kids between 1-3 1/2.
Cheryl and her family came up here with her mother's parents when she was young.
She and her family vacationed with her grandparents from the time I was 7 until she was 17. To get there from southern Wisconsin, my father would never drive directly there. Once, they drove into Michigan and around the UP of Michigan to get to Hayward, WI. For years, she never really knew where Hayward, WI was. Once she arrived, my dad slept on the sofa, her brother David would fish with grandpa and Jason and Cheryl would fish together. Grandpa was a muskie man, but her brothers and her usually caught bullheads (a less desirable fish). Grandpa would mutter under his breath when he saw what they caught.
Fast forward to the present. Like every vacation, we both procrastinated in packing for this trip. We finally left mid Saturday morning around 10:30 am. About 30 minutes into the trip, we realized that we did not pack the kids booster seats and potty chairs. However, we pressed on, stopping in a nearby town to buy some furniture for the kids that we saw at a yard sale (I picked it up after we came home). We stopped in Minocqua, where we had ice cream at a old fashioned soda fountain. After looking around there, we drove several more hours to Hayward.
We beat our inlaws there, but only by 40 minutes or so. Well, Cheryl and my in laws fished, we went boating, saw a fishing museum, ate at a cool pizza restaurant, and saw an indian pow wow. Then we came home. Thought Hudson was getting sick on the home, as he spit up on himself about an hour into the trip home. Don't ask what he did to his hands before we could clean them off. Upshout, he was fine, no further spit ups.
Several first on the trip, Hudson's first boat ride and as part of that, first time wearing a life vest. He did not like that on bit, but after we got into the boat, he was like a champ. Also, the goat in the sand box picture hopped into the stroller we rented for Emma (she is loves to start out walking and then wants mama to carry her). Emma became so upset that after the little goat got out, Emma ran crying over to the stroller and climbed into it. We also visited a small zoo, from which the picture of the goat came from.
